How it will work

How does a board game cafe work?

The Treehouse will be Sheffield's first board game cafe, but what does this mean in practice?

  • An extensive library of games. We'll have at least 300 games in our library when we open in September, and we will keep expanding this once we're open to add new releases and customer requests.
  • Friendly games gurus to help you find the right game for your group and get to grips with the rules.
  • A small cover charge per session. This is to help us maintain the games library and pay our gurus, and ensures we maintain our specialism as a board games cafe.
  • Food and drink served direct to your table, so you don't have to miss your turn to get a new drink.

We'll serve alcohol, and our opening hours will be similar to a pub: roughly 11am-11pm each day.

How will the cover charge work?

When you come to the Treehouse to play games, you'll pay a standard cover charge of £5 per adult/ £2.50 per child (under 12 years), providing four hours of access to the games library so you can play whatever you fancy.

At the weekends and in the evenings after 7pm, the cover charge will apply to everyone. This is to ensure the Treehouse remains a specialist venue so we can create the best possible playing environment.

During the week before 7pm, you'll be able to use the Treehouse as a normal cafe, enjoying our great selection of coffee and cake with free wifi for those that want it. However, if you wish to use the games library the cover charge will still apply.

We will offer a membership scheme for those of you who plan to visit regularly. This will be £25 per year, giving you your first session for free and subsequent sessions for £2.50.

Who will the Treehouse be for?

The Treehouse will be for everyone.

We will be a family-friendly venue, with all ages welcome during the day (under 12s should be accompanied by an adult). In the evening, we expect to be able to accommodate unaccompanied under 18s until 7pm and accompanied under 18s until 9pm, based on the conditions of our alcohol licence.

The premises are fully wheelchair accessible and we will be a dog-friendly venue.
